The Basque Country is unlike any other region in Spain: different grapes, different terroir, different language, different foods. Home to one of Spain's most refreshing and distinctive wine regions: Txakolina. Pronounced "choc-oh-LEE-nah" or simply Txakoli, "CHOC-o-lee" for short. Grown along the rugged Atlantic coastline, these bright, zesty wines are made from local grapes Hondarrabi Zuri (white) and Hondarrabi Beltza (red) known for their slight spritz (yes, even the reds!), vibrant acidity, peppery flavors, and unmistakable salty minerality that perfectly reflects their seaside origins.
Join Betty as we explore five unique expressions of Txakolina alongside one red from Rioja Alavesa- the Basque portion of Rioja, to highlight how dramatically wine styles can change over just a short distance. If you've never experienced wines from the Basque Country, prepare to discover one of Spain's most exciting and unique regions!
