Classically known for oak dominant, highly extracted Malbecs from “single vineyards” that could be over 1,000 acres in size, Argentina has been stuck in a reputation rut for a while now. Third generation, family owned winery Zuccardi is flipping the script. From extreme elevation vineyards to a harsh desert climate and incredibly stoney terrain, the Uco Valley is a wild place for vines to grow, resulting in expressive and dynamic wines when they are not covered up by new oak or excessive manipulation.
The Zuccardi team has not purchased new oak barrels in over a decade, choosing instead to invest in concrete eggs and tanks while relying on older oak vats to preserve the purity of fruit expression. They also focus on bottling tiny parcels within vineyards to showcase the varied expressions of grapes grown just a stones throw from one another.
Think you know all about Argentina? Think again! The whites and reds (not just Malbec either!) crafted by Zuccardi will rock your world! Think you know all about Argentina? Think again! The whites and reds (not just Malbec either!) crafted by Zuccardi will rock your world!
