Cabernet Franc may be the parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, but in France’s Loire Valley it tells a completely different story. Join Whitney for a focused deep dive into one of the world’s most expressive red grapes as we explore four distinct Loire Valley Cabernet Francs.
From the gravelly soils of Chinon, across the river to Bourgueil, and to the limestone rich vineyards of Saumur Champigny, you will see how terroir, climate, and cellar choices shape everything from bright red fruit and savory herbs to structured, age worthy bottlings.
Expect a thoughtful conversation about whole cluster fermentation, Loire acidity, and why this grape thrives in cooler climates. If you love reds with energy, nuance, and a little earthy edge, this class will expand your perspective on what Cabernet Franc can be.

Drinking wine and raising money for one of the worthiest local causes? Count us in! Every year we throw a huge tasting party to raise money for a local non-profit and this year it is Norfolk CASA. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates
Norfolk CASA recruits, trains, and places community members onto cases of child abuse and neglect in order for children to have a consistent and caring adult by their side as they traverse the court and social service systems. Loss of federal funding puts this organization and many others like it in crisis mode.
CASA volunteers come from all walks of life and bring with them a desire to help children. They are appointed by the judges of the Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Norfolk CASA is led by a 12 member Board of Directors and employs 2 full time staff and 2 part time staff. There are 40 CASA volunteers who are currently serving 62 children. They meet with their CASA kids 1-2 times a month and investigate their cases to report to the judge on all parts of their CASA kids’ lives, focusing always on their best interests.
If you are interested in volunteering or donating in a larger capacity, please reach out to Roxie Hoven: roxiehoven@norfolkcasa.com
